The Story of Ma Bean's Pies
Our pies are famous!
I moved to the lovely state of Vermont from the city in
1975. That fall when the apples in the trees out back got
ripe I made my first pie for a friend’s birthday. Ma Bean’s
Vermont Pies were born. I’ve made thousands of pies since
then. I believe I could be a contender in the Guinness Book of World Records for the number of apples peeled by hand! In 1984 my husband Tom and I bought the infamous Red Fox Inn in southern Vermont, where early on my pie was voted ‘Best Apple Pie in Vermont’ by Yankee Magazine. The simple honest Vermont ingredients starting with juicy Macintosh apples, a flaky crust made from King Arthur Flour and a Cabot butter crumb top put this pie in a class all its own. Thanks to some old fashioned Yankee ingenuity and the sophisticated shipping of today’s market, now you too can enjoy this award winning pie at home. Serve it warm with your favorite Vermont ice cream, or cheddar, you’re sure to be the hit of any gathering! Remember, if you want the best, it’s got to be fresh.
